"Where gold meets silver"
The park is greatly known for its golden monkeys and is also a home of 300 mountain gorillas located in virunga massif. The park also has cool temperatures representing the mountainous nature. The park derives its name from a Kinyarwanda word for a pile of volcanic lava stone heaps around which cultivation is carried.
WHAT TO DO
Birding can be done in the gorge between mountains Gahinga and Sabinyo, through the bamboo forest and in the montane forest to view the Rwenzori turaco and many other birds.
For years at the dense Mgahinga forest has always been a home of the fierce Batwa warriors who have survived through wild fruit gathering and hunting. Come and get led by the Batwa through the forest and see them show case how they have survived all the way.
